Answer on blog by wednesday 8 am for ms pyeatt

What is your narrowed down topic?

My narrowed down topic will be set in 1867 when the Diamonds were discovered in South Africa.

Why will this be a good topic for you?

This will be a good topic for me because it is  interesting.  I will be interested to know that if some of the diamonds they found in 1867 are common today.  Since this is interesting to me, I will be more attentive when reading about the diamonds.

Memories-- Final copy of poem

Memories

We had the good times
and then the bad

When we played in that stream on that hot summer day
And then on that same day when we played in the hay

The royal blue ribbons flashed in front of us
but that was just a plus

and I gave you so much trust
because I never thought we would ever rust

but then when you sometimes didn’t want to be a team in that sandy brown ring
Because when I felt that sting...

I felt like a worn string
being torn apart and feeling like the end of us were frayed at the end of the day

It’s true that

We had The joyful smiles
and then the worst of tears

But the best part about it
was that you carried me away from all my fears

Reflection on the poem-- You will never see me fall

  1. What 3+ specifics you liked about this poem?
You Will Never See Me Fall is a wonderful inspirational poem. One thing I loved about this particular poem is that it describes the toughest parts in  life.   When reading this poem the poet reminded me that no matter what, you always have to pick your head up.  Whether it's someone trying to push you down, or even if it's just a bad day, humans were made to put up with things that only make us stronger.  Another thing I enjoyed when reading this poem was the word choice and rhythm that was included in the poem.  When I first read this poem, I felt like I never wanted it to end.   I felt that particular feeling because I think that readers could connect their lives to this poem easily.  I think that each human being has had to go through something difficult, so when readers read this poem I think that they felt an emotional 'pull' towards the poem.  I think that I will treasure this poem forever, so that when I need that push to get right back up I will have the power to be able to.

      2.   What did you learn about writing poetry from reading the poem?

After reading the poem You will Never See Me Fall, by Joyce Alcantara, I learned many things about writing my own poetry.  It was interesting to see that all the things that I loved about this precise poem, I would like to combine into my own poetry.  The next time I write my own poetry I would like to combine inspirational lines and words, better rhythm and word choice, and ideas that people can connect to.  I think it helped me to see poetry that included all of these elements, so that I can learn from it and interpret it into my own style of writing.  After reading this particular poem a few more times, I have a better understanding of what I need to do when writing my own style of poetry.

You will Never See Me Fall
By Joyce Alcantara

You may see me struggle
but you won't see me fall.
Regardless if I'm weak or not I'm going to stand tall.
Everyone says life is easy
but truly living it is not.
times get hard,
people struggle
and constantly get put on the spot.
I'm going to wear the biggest smile
even though I want to cry.
I'm going to fight to live
even though I'm destined to die.
and even though it's hard and I may struggle through it all.
you see me struggle...you will NEVER see me fall.

My Mission Statement

My mission statement in life is to do many things.  I hope to always be portrayed as being caring and to always see the beauty in things.   In life I look up to many people, but there are some that when I grow up I hope I can be just like them. I look up to my pony Miles because he is almost always happy, and is extremely sweet no matter what! Even when Miles comes across something that I did wrong, he forgives and forgets.  I also look up to a college student named Morgan Teague.  Morgan Teague is a girl at my barn who works so hard to attain her goal.  She not only rides amazingly but she is also extremely determined and sweet.  No matter what obstacle she comes across, she always bounces back from it, and finds a way to overcome it with flying colors.  Another person I want to be like when I become an adult is Marianna Parker.  Just like Morgan, Marianna is also a someone at my barn.  I hope to be like Marianna because she always fights to get right back up when something, or someone, threatens to push her down. I hope when I grow up I can have a little bit of Miles, Morgan and Marianna inside of me.
